1788 - Arrival of First Fleet with convicts at Botany Bay (18/1/1788). Governor Phillip moved the fleet north to Port Jackson to found the settlement of Sydney (21/1/1788). Phillip took possession of eastern Australia for Britain (26/1/1788).
